What to do if you have doubts about parenthood?

It may be hard to imagine, and you may not want to imagine it at all, but it is actually possible. What are we talking about now? About doubts about parenthood. We are not talking about the choice of whether or not to have a child, but about the situation where there is already a child. And then? Then there is doubt about the father. Who is the father? This can happen in several cases, one more complex than the other. For example, the woman may have cheated on her husband. It may also be the case that the man was thought to be infertile, the woman has had a sperm transplant and then still has doubts about who the biological father is. This is quite a complex case, but we have a solution for you. In this blog you will read what you can do in these cases to create more clarity.

Prenatal test

If you are early and the woman is still pregnant, you can opt for prenatal testing. This means that you perform a DNA testing for paternity while the woman is still pregnant. This is done in a way that is not harmful for the baby and is not invasive. It is therefore a fairly natural and non-invasive way. You get the results after the samples have been sent to the lab and analysed. This result is either a match or no match. The samples are then taken from the pregnant woman (usually a blood sample) and from the alleged father (usually a saliva sample, but a blood sample is also possible).

Home test

If the child has already been born, you can opt for a home paternity test. This test is then taken from the baby with the saliva and the same is done for the alleged father. You can simply order this online and you will receive a kit. With this kit you can arrange everything yourself. All you have to do is send the samples safely to your lab in the prescribed manner. The lab will then examine the samples and compare them. They will then look at the DNA to see if there is a match. The match will then reveal whether or not the alleged father is actually the father. However, this is not a legally useful test, for which you will have to have a special test done by professionals. Then the test is usable for, for instance, a custody trial or alimony.
