I train freshman chemistry at M.I.T. Chemistry — and I assume that is true of the other sciences, too — is taught with a historic bent. How did individuals work out about that electrons have been negatively charged particles, for instance? The result’s that it can appear as if all discoveries are prior to now and had been made by dead white guys. Such a requirement would at the very least focus attention on effective science instruction and create an incentive to do better. Moreover, it might provide high school college students with info that could influence their selection of school.
